content home the future gets written today heads up! prof. geoff talks gbm inside the research lab donating pretty green what’s the story? phone and email info a quick heads up! fundraising updates £100k grant available clomipramine trial news latest research update follow on twitter tweets by @headcasecancert recent posts ‘there is a light and it never goes out’ (the smiths 1986) becky speirs colin burrows james connolly tony giles hello from headcase cancer trust…… the only charity in the uk that dedicates its funding solely to research to find a cure for glioblastoma multiforme (gbm) brain tumours. headcase is a young and vibrant charity with a slightly irreverent approach to a very serious subject matter, and definitely a maverick approach to fundraising. for example, we're probably the only charity that has a greyhound raising both awareness and money! that said we love all kinds of fundraising, although a lot of our supporters do the most weird and wacky things. as one of our slogans says….. ‘brain tumours…… they do your head in!’, and they most certainly do, especially gbm which is the most common and most deadly type of brain tumour, killing around 5000 people each year in the uk (that’s 5 times more than all the other 130 types of brain tumour put together!). average life expectancy with a gbm, from diagnosis, is a mere 14 months. there is no cure. gbm has the highest number of life years lost of any cancer at 20.1 years! headcase raises money solely for research to find a cure for this incurable, and frankly, absolute git of a condition. we fund professor geoff pilkington and his team at portsmouth university. prof. geoff is definitely our kind of professor….. he thinks differently, looking at novel and unique approaches to first understanding the way gbm functions before looking at strategies to attack and ultimately beat it. just so you know, headcase is run on an entirely voluntary basis so you can be assured that none of your donation will be used on salaries for anyone associated with headcase. in fact over 98% of all monies we receive go directly to research and thanks to the miracle of gift aid, every £1 we receive actually generates £1.05p for research! not many other charities can do that! this means that your donations and fundraising will be going to where it matters most….. geoff and his team. we want our site to be both informative and, wherever possible, engaging. you'll find plenty of video and musical content on our site and if you like anything you've seen then you can do 2 things for us in return…. firstly, tell as many people as possible about headcase through facebook, twitter, text or good old fashioned word of mouth, then grab your phone and make a text donation of just £1. it's dead easy and takes a couple of seconds to do. just text head66 £1 to 70070 why not make a start by clicking on our doodle ad below? big thanks! copyright © 2013. all rights reserved - headcase cancer trust - registered charity : 1140061 designed by a2b designers ltd .
